Should you try the Sushi?

		Should you try the Sushi?

The West Georgian, State University of West Georgia, GA

The long-awaited sushi bar on the third floor of the UCC opened for business last week. Sushi is always hit or miss. Sometimes, one experiences a form of culinary bliss equivalent to finding a handful of caviar in the morning oatmeal. Other times, sushi evokes within the customer a sick feeling akin to dying slowly from the inside.

Editor says goodbye, offers advice to incoming students

North Texas Daily, University of North Texas, TX

As editor-in-chief of the summer edition of the North Texas Daily, I'd like to welcome everybody back to the University of North Texas.

Even though this is the first publication from the Daily you will see, this is also the last one I will have a hand in.

Opinions of students should count

The Traveler, University of Arkansas, AR

The 2008-09 school year is finally under way, so I'd like to begin by welcoming our brand new chancellor, G. David Gearhart, to the UA. Chancellor Gearhart has pledged to "put students first." His arrival marks a tremendous opportunity for the UA administration to heal the rifts that have developed between the decision-makers and the students.

It's that time again: welcome back to the UA

Another summer gone. Another delivery of lost, confused freshmen to the UA. Another opportunity for all of us students to make those vital steps toward securing our future careers.

It's the 2008-09 school year, as difficult as it might seem, and while many changes will greet you this year after you trudge up the Hill for the umpteenth time - a new chancellor, a variety of construction projects, some new living arrangements and, yes, more parking confusion - one thing hasn't changed: The Arkansas Traveler.

VIEWPOINT: "The passion of the regents"

The Daily Texan, University of Texas, Austin, TX

19 hours ago by Leah Finnegan

At the UT System's Board of Regents meeting on Thursday, there was much talk of passion for education in the scripted agendas, but a notable lack of it between the lines.

Alas, UT is a business, and the regents are businessmen, and things like fiduciary plans don't often inspire dramatic soliloquies.

Our Word: Stability is possible

Keeping Sam Goldman in the chancellor's office for the next two years is a step in the right direction. The university is under the microscope for reaccreditation this year, and the last thing we need is a fiasco involving a disappearing chancellor who "didn't do his job.

A Modest Proposal

A new school year and a new class of freshmen have invaded campus. I feel obligated to give some advice to the new faces to college, Carrollton, and UWG.

1. Watch out for parking. They will ticket you even if you're parked where you're supposed to be, especially if you've forgotten to put your hangtag back up after going home for the weekend.

Goodbye, Bear

"Every Man Dies, Not Every Man Truly Lives"

On Tuesday August 12th, West Georgia lost a faithful servant, his loving wife and three children lost a great dad, and great husband, and I lost my best friend. Gerald Kielborn, better known as Bear, fought the good fight for as long as his body, mind, and spirit could.

THE FIRING LINE

My goodness, I was so hoping our young people would realize that hard-line politics aren't very productive ("Humans are people, too," The Firing Line, Aug. 8). The real work gets done when the pendulum is in the middle. I don't know who writes the scripts for being conservative or liberal, but come on, folks - we have brains, let's use them.

Disturbing trends precede presidential election

In April of 2007, former CBS News reporter and six-time Emmy Award winner Bernard Goldberg's book, entitled "Crazies to the Left of Me, Wimps to the Right: How One Side Lost Its Mind and the Other Lost Its Nerve," was released. The book became an instant bestseller, and although its title was conjured up over a year ago, its premise is becoming increasingly apparent in this year's presidential election.

Homosexuality in entertainment

The other night I had the amazing experience of going to see a George Michael concert. I have always been a big fan his, but never had the chance to see him live. I am only 21; admittedly I was not familiar with his entire collection of music. In an attempt to familiarize myself with his music and career I went online.

Shifting the blame Following my time on the 40 Acres, I moved only as far as the adjacent 40 acres, across MLK Jr Boulevard. I can see Heath Cleveland's dreaded Guadalupe Garage from my window ("Safer lots for students," Aug. 13) and yes, we're in an urban center.

Children too young for résumés

UH prides itself on the diversity of its campus, and rightly so. From the beautiful colors of cultural clothing, to the numerous ethnic, religious and student groups to join, our campus is an eclectic one. Within this diverse environment are very diverse people, including students attending class full-time while holding two jobs, married students and parents returning to school to better themselves and the lives of their children.
