As many students embark on their quest for a college level education, either the abundance or the lack of spiritual enhancement related to college enters the minds of the people that compose the student body. Abundance often results in a more positive attitude portrayed by the student body when dealing with spirituality and college. A lack would give the inverse effect. With this in mind, many students have sought ways to engage in spiritual activities during their tenure at Alcorn State University.

“It seems like there are so many activities which promote negative conduct by the student body at Alcorn, but there just aren’t enough good activities to offset the bad,” said Shannon Watts, a graduate student from Port Gibson.

Many students have even sought ways of starting organizations devoted to spiritual enhancement on campus. George Bradford, a senior computer science/applied mathematics major from Beaumont, Texas, is one of such students. Bradford is attempting to start an on-campus organization known as Campus Crusade for Christ. This organization achieves its goal of spiritual enhancement through walking around the campus and speaking with different people about Christianity. Bradford says that the organization fulfills what is known as ‘The Great Commission’ in this way.

“I want to expose the gospel of Jesus Christ to the students and show people that living a spiritual life while in college is possible,” said Bradford.

The organization, however, is still in the process of being built. Bradford says that he has been praying and receiving instruction on what to do for the remainder of the academic year. He believes that the organization will be very successful.

Other students feel the same way. “I believe that anything positive will flourish. Many people are afraid to step out and do something like that, but when they see that someone else is doing it, then more and more people will decide to either join or begin something similar to it,” says Robert Beverly, a junior communications major from Chicago.

Bradford says that he is considering all people who are interested for placement in the organization. The organization is not complete because it currently does not have a sponsor.
