Music and chatter filled the Campus Union Ballroom on the evening of September 20th as students packed in for the Sigma Gamma Rho/Kappa Alpha Psi Freshmen Mixer 2007. This mixer introduced the organizations to new students on campus, which was mainly freshmen.

The Epsilon Tau chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., along with the Gamma Pi chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. put together the mixer, which was only the second on campus this semester (The first one was hosted by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc). It was scheduled to begin at 7:00, but due to minor timing difficulties, the students were kept waiting outside until around 7:30. When everyone was finally in, the program kicked off with both organizations strolling in to Fabolous' "Make me Better."

The first part of the program was hosted by Sigma Gamma Rho. Iesha Braylock was the mistress of ceremonies. An invocation was done by Jamaal James, and background information about both organizations was given by the members. Door prizes were also distributed to individuals that answered particular questions correctly about the organizations.

The first organization to the stage was none other than Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. They brought the hype with an old-school hip-hop theme, bringing songs such as "Push It", "It Feels Good", and "Ride Dat Donkey," along with cleanly-executed cane steps. This got the crowd hyped for a period of time, but the party really started when three members of the Delta Lambda Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho, which included Biology instructor Emma Jackson, presented a show that was sure to be remembered.

Kappa Alpha Psi gave a tantalizing dreamscape performance. Their trademark cane routine went perfectly to J. Holiday's "Put You To Bed." They also hosted the club night at the Trace Theater in Port Gibson, that followed the mixer.

Sigma Gamma Rho was founded on Novenber 12, 1922 at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Epsilon Tau chapter was chartered here in 1946. Kappa Alpha Psi, was founded on January 5, 1911 at Indiana University at Bloomington. The Gamma Pi chapter was chartered here in 1949.
