Anderson offered advice to both classes about the field of Mass Communication. He stressed the importance of documenting sources, using more that one source whenever possible, getting names right in news stories, networking, community involvement, having a thirst for knowledge, and strongly suggested the use of a recording device to ensure that quotes are accurate, thereby protecting both the reporter and the source.
In offering advice on how to choose news stories, Anderson said, "The most interesting stuff is the questions that you'd ask yourself."
Anderson also recommended finding stories that affect everyone.
When asked how he got into the field of broadcasting, Anderson responded, "I went to college for one year and the rest of my experience has been on the job."
Ron Anderson has over 30 years of broadcasting experience. He has worked throughout Mississippi at radio stations in Vicksburg, Cleveland and Clarksdale. He was also a radio broadcaster in Helena, Arkansas.
