The movie "American Gangster," a bio-picture about Harlem drug-lord Frank Lucas, did something great for Hip-Hop. Before the movie hit theaters, Jay-Z, one of the greatest rappers of all time, got the chance to see this film. The movie was so powerful that it inspired him to record his 10th album, with the same name as the movie. On the CD, he tells the story of the rise and fall of a drug dealer.
Jay-Z starts with the song "Pray," produced by Diddy. This track is about the beginning stages of a young hustler. On "American Dreamin'," Jigga explains how the young hustler dreams about making it to the top and living the flashy life of a street hustler. He finally makes it to the top on another Diddy produced song "Roc Boys (And the winner is)," where the young man achieves all of his goals.
Two of the best songs on the album feature some of today's best lyricists. Jay-Z and Lil' Wayne show their love for Brooklyn on the Bigg D produced "Hello Brooklyn 2.0." Then he teams up with Nas on "Success," where they rap about the cons of being famous.
The most important song on the album is the Jermain Dupri produced "Fallin'."
This is where the young hustler falls from grace and all of his wrong doings catch up with him.
Jay-Z put together a great album. He is, and will always be, one of our generation's greatest Hip-Hop artists. The story that he told was amazing. What made this CD even better is that he shows you that selling drugs in not a good or smart hustle. It will either get you locked up or killed. So for all of you wanna-be trappers (that's slang for drug dealer) out there, I advise you to pay attention to track 13 because this is how your life will end up.
