At Alcorn State University, many visitors would definitely be astonished at the diversity of unique styles students portray. Though Mississippi may be far from the fashion capital of the United States, New York, people here still find ways to be creative with their clothes and accessories. Archie Taylor, a graduate student from Memphis, TN said, "I look at various fashion publications such as GQ Magazine to stay abreast to the latest styles. Other times, I incorporate my own ideas with current fashion industry trends to create my own individual look."
Surprisingly enough, Alcorn campus could be seen as a "Mini Mecca of Fashion," because of many students' drive to be different and fashionable.
Sometimes it appears as if some students , despite their efforts and desire to create a look that is fashion forward and appealing to everyone's eye, their outfit ends up looking more like a disaster- a fashion don't. An anonymous source said, "People from this state (Mississippi) clothes and styles tend to be outdated."
Three helpful tips to those Alcornites who are struggling with their fashion identity:

1.) When in Doubt, Don't Wear it Out-
Before leaving your room, if you feel uncomfortable or not sure about apparel, it may be a good idea to play it safe and change clothes.
2.) Less Is Best-
Sometimes even celebrities forget this rule. One common fashion faux pas is to over-accessorize. Too many accessories can take away from the beauty of the clothing.
3.) Dress for Success-
Remember, jeans, t-shirts, head wraps and sleeveless dresses not accompanied by a sweater are definitely inappropriate for formal functions such as an interview or a banquet dinner.

Needless to say, some students seem to always put their best fashion foot forward.
Some common trends Alcorn fashionistas have been know to wear are ruffled tops, oversized cardigans, skinny jeans and scarves. Obviously, these Alcorn ladies don't wear all of these items at one time. Several of Alcorn's best dressed men wardrobes includes a v-neck sweater , vintage inspired tie, fitted graphic tee or polo shirt and a good pair of quality shoes.
Breanna Fulton, a sophomore from McComb, MS said, "My favorite look is skinny jeans and ballets paired together."
Kristian Hughes, a sophomore from McComb, MS said, "My favorite outfit is a graphic tee worn with a vest over it along with dark colored jeans and nice dress shoes."
Students here at Alcorn are not only gaining knowledge for their education, but they are also developing their own fashion styles possibly for life.
