I think D.C. did hear the campus of Alcorn that night, well at least the screams of "We did it!" made it to Port Gibson. I know that this is such an electric feeling, such a momentous, historical precedent, such a satisfying thrill that seems like some terribly wonderful dream. I know how you feel; how your heart feels as if its about to jump out of your chest, how your eyes well at the very thought, how every inch of your body is gripped with the odd sensation of simultaneous belief and shock, coupled with immense eltion and joy. I know how you feel, but hear this:
This is not the end, in fact its not even the beginning; not until January 20th. This is a time of great joy, however let us not lose focus in our reveille. Let us not put on airs and hold our heads so high that we trip over our feet. Let us not forget that we Negros have come a long way and we still have a longway to travel.
Let us not disregard our humble beginnings to embrace egotistical chauvinism. Let us strive to be more humble than ever. Let us not view November 4th as "our" win, but as a win for the entire United States, in fact, the world. Let us not use November 4th as an excuse to party and to forget the road behind us but let us use November 4th as inspiration. Let us make Obama our goal, so that every Negro child can see us emulate him, instead of Gucci Mane and Lil' Wayne.
Let us not allow things to remain as they are. Remember that we as a people have come from the fields of white to the White House. Let every thug and goon leave the corner to study in a class room. Let every Negro man and woman embody the drive, dedication and intelligence that is Obama. Let every Negro strive to become the most powerful person in the free world. RIOT
