The Alcorn chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority hosted the first poetry reading of the semester, Wednesday night January 21, in the ballroom. Many talented students sung, presented speeches and recited poems. The ballroom was decorated café style with low lights, making it an ideal setting for the event.
Participants performed with passion on themes such as; love, hate, relationships, sex, academics, the university, youth challenges and President Barack Obama.
Some pieces were a little explicit while others sent the audience on a thoughtful journey.
"We as students need more ways to express ourselves and this was perfect," said Andrea Payne. Artists for the night included published poet, Nancy Brownlee, Del Harris, Jr., and Mass Communication professor, Dr. Jerry Domatob. The event was the first in a series of programs the Zetas have for the university.
