Students participated in bringing the Zeitgeist movement to Alcorn through civil duty that informed about community awareness and surrounding issues.
The first program was opened on February 25 with the first annual luncheon and tryout for the Apollo. The purpose of the zeitgeist luncheon and the Apollo tryouts was to inform Alcorn students the mission of our group, as representatives of the student body of Alcorn State University, seek to uplift our surrounding schools, communities and, in the process, restore Alcorn's history of honor and prestige.
When established in the Alcorn community, future goals are to solicit proceeds from the annual festival that in result, fund a scholarship for two high achieving students from high schools in Fayette and Port Gibson MS, and donate to those school systems as well. Other portions of profit will be used to improve the Alcorn State University infirmary. By empowering others, we empower ourselves.
"We the people of Zeitgeist want to inform everyone that commutation is the only key to having a fruitful relationship with the administration. With that being said we're calling for help from all student body and staff to get involved with community and fix the problems that hinder us here at Alcorn State University. Surprisingly the administration really cares and the only way to fix problems at the school is if we work together" said the founder of Zeitgeist Oyin Olalude.
Staff also feels it is a great impact on students. "I feel like it is a great community building program which strives to bring staff, students and faculty together through intellectual and other social events" said associate professor Dr. Jerry Domatob.
