A Woman's "Place"

Issue date: 5/4/09 Section: Expressions
The disagreement has been around for decades as to where or what a woman's "place" is. This argument has occurred not only among men and women, but women and women as well. Dating back to the days of the bible, where women were perceived to only be women of the house, men have always been superior to women. A woman's career was viewed as marriage. Women, over the years, have found their independence and their self worth. This has caused changes within the homes to a shift in authority and responsibilities. More independent and career driven women have taken a stand and decided they will make their own decisions and have just as much determination as men in the work force.
Women can assume and have just as many responsibilities as men. It is my belief that we as women take on more than men because we were built to endure masses. In today's society, women wear many robes as far as maintaining their households and juggling professional careers. In many modern households, the tradition has reversed. Many men stay to take care of the home while the women go to work. Some would argue that this is wrong and each spouse does not know their place. I see nothing wrong with the situation. Many families may function better with the men at home, forming a different type of bond from the traditional father role of not being around.
Women have proven themselves over the decades to be just as strong-willed as men. A much needed boost in self-esteem comes with a woman's independence. For many years women were bought to be broken and used. In this day and age it is refreshing to see a woman in the running for presidential candidacy. It provides younger girls with the hope of doing anything they put their minds to and accomplishing it. Yet, with the authority comes the uncertainty. Mood swings
and hot flashes are always in the minds of the opposers. They wish for the smallest mistake to blame a woman and dub her incompetent.
Household responsibilities are the works of members of the household. A marriage is a unity and working together holds that unity together. All members should assume responsibilities to maintain the house. Women should be able to decide for themselves (rather than be forced) to work, nor should they be frowned upon for deciding to have a career. After all, we should not judge because none of us are perfect. Many men make excellent professional husbands and fathers. With time comes change and everyone should embrace the changes of the world.
