Please Pay Attention!

If we paid attention, we would not complain about going to class, or writing papers, or taking an exam when people all around us are losing their jobs, their homes, and even their lives. Three hours a week in a classroom, as painful as it may seem to you, is nothing compared to the fear and despair one feels when realizing they can no longer provide for their family. Not only does this put our lives into perspective, but reminds us how essential school is. It is especially important for us to gain the knowledge and facts we need to stand up for our rights in this world-wide economic crisis, and we should demand that the governments of the world do what is needed to fix it. This recession affects us all and the best thing we can do right now to combat it is to get an education.
Of course, paying attention will not solve the problems of the world; it will not eliminate our flaws and automatically make us a better person. However, it will give us the knowledge we need to start. And we have to start somewhere, even if it's in the check-out line at Wal-Mart.
